Position Summary,

The Utility Engineering team delivers a range of engineering, and analysis services across multiple disciplines. This team plays a crucial role in identifying, diagnosing, and resolving technical issues for various company departments. Additionally, they provide consultative support to internal teams, recommending equipment, materials, and methods that align with industry best practices. Their services encompass technology demonstrations, inspections, failure analysis, performance assessments, and evaluations on diverse systems and components, from large-scale transmission and distribution to distributed generation. The engineering team collaborates with management to develop bid proposals for project work and is committed to maintaining up-to-date knowledge of company and regulatory safety and quality standards.

The role of Senior Electrical Engineer entails leading the Utility Engineering team and offering guidance to other engineering groups within EETS, Inc. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing electrical engineering analysis, and consulting services.
  • Evaluating new equipment and tools.
  • Analyzing equipment failures.
  • Investigating and recreating electrical safety incidents.
  • Measuring and analyzing grounding grids.
  • Developing arc-flash hazard analysis and programs.

This position requires travel, typically ranging from 10% to 25%, depending on the specific assignment.

Responsibilities

This job involves exercising independent decision-making to tackle significant, complex problems with limited precedents, requiring the integration of information from diverse sources. Leading a team, responsibilities include defining project scope, timelines, budget, and preparing client proposals.

Acknowledged as an expert in specific fields, the role contributes extensive knowledge and conducts analyses and projects across various domains. Responsibilities encompass:

  • Substation switchyard grounding analysis.
  • Development of temporary protective grounding procedures.
  • Arc flash hazard analysis and program development.
  • Engineering support for live line work procedure development.
  • Special studies on interference from nearby high voltage lines and equipment.

The role demands innovative solutions for complex issues, business condition assessment, opportunity identification, and developing multifunctional or multidisciplinary projects and solutions. Leading project teams, tasks involve reviewing to identify and solve problems, preparing technical reports and specifications, and presenting findings to clients. Overseeing the assembly of technical systems and prototypes according to engineering standards is also key.

Other duties include modifying prototypes, parts, and systems to improve functionality, continually seeking process improvements, developing, evaluating, and implementing new technologies, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.

The role may involve providing expert opinions to external entities, interfacing with clients to understand and fulfill their expectations, and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Additionally, representation at industry meetings or seminars with organizations like ASTM, IEEE, EPRI, CIGRE, etc., is part of the role.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • P.E. (Professional Engineer License)
  • 10 years of related experience

Desired:

  • Proficiency in engineering research, theories, practices, methods, and techniques within a specialized area, possibly including a comprehensive understanding of other engineering fields.
  • Experience in an electrical utility setting, with a range of expertise in electrical engineering roles such as power system studies, system planning and operations, engineering design, equipment specifications, and the development of work methods and procedures.
  • Familiar with both existing and emerging technologies relevant to technical design in the specialty area.
  • Active involvement in industry leadership for the development of industry standards.
  • A deep understanding of quality assurance and control concepts and practices.
  • Advanced skills in investigative and analytical problem-solving.
  • Possesses excellent organizational skills, essential for effective management of design and leadership tasks.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills for delivering findings and recommendations to clients at various levels.
  • Competency in project management and team leadership.
  • A strong customer service focus, with the ability to adapt project plans and team management to meet customer needs.
